When to book each stage inspection on a Tarneit build

Slab, frame, lock-up, fixing and PCI: the right moment to inspect each stage and what is lost if you miss it.

Owner Inspections · Tarneit 3029 · 2026-08-05

In short: Slab the day before the pour, frame after trusses, lock-up before plaster, then fixing and PCI. Each stage hides the last, so timing is everything.

Slab pre-pour

Book for the day before the pour. We check reinforcement, bar chairs, cover, penetrations, vapour barrier and edge beams. Once concrete is poured nothing here can be checked again.

Frame

After the roof trusses are on and before the roof and wrap go on. Straightness, bracing, tie-downs, lintels and window openings are all visible at this point only.

Lock-up (pre-plaster)

After brickwork, windows and roof, before plaster. Flashings, wall wrap, mortar joints, roof space framing and services are checked before they are covered.

Fixing and PCI

Fixing catches waterproofing, tiling and cabinetry before paint. PCI is the final list. Together they close out the defects that appear at handover.

FAQ

Questions Tarneit owners ask about this

How much notice does the builder need?

Usually 24 to 48 hours. Tell your site supervisor at contract signing that you will have independent inspections at each stage.

Which two stages matter most if I can only afford two?

Frame and PCI. Frame catches structural items, PCI catches everything you will live with.

Does this apply outside Tarneit?

The standards apply across Victoria. The local detail here, soil, builders and council process, is specific to Tarneit and the Wyndham growth corridor.
